Brett Battles debuted as an author with his novel, The Cleaner. Jonathan Quinn is the protagonist. He won’t vacuum the leaves out of your pool, but he will make the dead body lying at the bottom of it disappear.
Brett has created a character whose profession is unique. He makes other people’s problems vanish. You have a dead body that needs to go away and never be seen again, hire Quinn. The Cleaner was a great read with enough high-speed action in the streets of Berlin and Saigon to leave you wanting more.
His second novel in the series is The Deceived. Quinn is hired to dispose of a body that’s in a shipping container at the port of Long Beach. When he discovers that it’s a former CIA agent, who was a good friend, he can’t just do the job and walk away. Brett takes you on a fast paced ride that goes from the streets of Washington to the exotic city of Singapore.
His third novel is titled Shadow of Betrayal. The release day is July 7th.
The opening scenes take place in an abandoned Catholic Church, fifty kilometers northwest of Cork in rural Ireland. Quinn was hired to watch and observe a meeting between a representative of the agency that hired him and an informer. If anything went wrong, Quinn was there to clean up the mess. The violent confrontation at the church is just the beginning of a fast paced thriller that will take you from Ireland to New York and ultimately California.
Accompanied by his girlfriend and colleague, the lethal Orlando, and his apprentice, Nate, Quinn’s in a deadly race. The twists and turns are as violent as a desert flash flood and guaranteed to make the hairs on the back of your neck standup.
The action’s superb and an the descriptions of the locals put me in the middle of each scene. Brett’s research is the best.
I predict that someday we’ll see Jonathan Quinn on the big screen. Until then, I’ll settle for his next installment.
Pick up one of Brett’s novels and I guarantee you’ll buy the other two. Brett, thanks for the fantastic entertainment.
